Singer Dan Flavour, born Daniel Tumwesigye, has made a heartfelt return to Uganda after an unexpected and disillusioning experience in South Africa. The artist, known for hits like “Rudi Nyumbani” and “Gwenjagala,” initially left for South Africa in search of greener pastures after a decade-long career that had brought him both fame and personal struggles.
Earlier this year, Dan opened up about his battles with depression and suicidal thoughts, laying bare the challenges that came alongside his musical success. With hopes of a fresh start, Dan accepted a friend’s offer of a “lucrative opportunity” in South Africa, only to discover the job was a scam. He was asked to work as a Sangoma—essentially a traditional healer—and deceive people for money.
Faced with a moral dilemma, Dan chose integrity over easy profit. He refused to participate in the scam, driven by his love for music and his commitment to making an honest living. In a statement, he shared that although many Ugandans in South Africa had turned to similar exploitative practices, his passion was to create music and spread positivity, not take advantage of others.
Feeling disillusioned but undeterred, Dan Flavour made the bold decision to return to Uganda, choosing to abandon the dubious lifestyle that never meant for him. Now back home, Dan will focus on reviving his music career, inspired by the struggles he has faced and eager to create songs that reflect his journey.
